What does a comprehensive eye examination check for?
A comprehensive eye exam includes both evaluation of the function and health of your eye. This 20-30 minute exam checks your visual acuity or focus ability, and looks for ways to improve it.  We also do a full assessment of your eye health to rule diseases or conditions that could compromise your vision or lead to blindness.

The examination includes an analysis of your current vision, current eye symptoms or problems, review of your medications, health history and a review of any glasses or contacts you currently use. Your visual acuity or focus ability is maximized via a process called refraction… where the clearest combination of lenses for you is determined.

Next, a biomicrosope is used to exam the lids, ocular surface and internal structures of the eye to rule out any ocular disease or condition that could reduce your vision or lead to irreversible blindness.

How long does an exam take?
The normal eye exam takes about 20-30 minutes. Please arrive at the office at least 15 minutes early to update your insurance and personal contact information.

Please bring your current glasses and/or current contact lenses and information with you for a quicker examination.

What if I have an eye condition or eye emergency?
CALL US! Dr. Treu has many years of experience dealing with many of the most common eye conditions and emergencies: eye infections, eye foreign bodies, flashes and floaters, lid bumps, etc.

He also has an excellent working relationship with many ocular specialists in the area and will refer you to them if further evaluation or treatment is in your best interest.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?
Most candidates are, but everyone’s case is unique.  Dr. Treu has been a co-management doctor for the Lasik procedure since the late 1990s.  Co-Management doctors handle the pre-op testing and post-op care for LASIK pts.  The 2 main technical hurdles any Lasik patient needs to cross are: 1) a glasses Rx within ability of the laser and 2) a healthy cornea that has the correct shape and thickness for the laser to be used. The majority of patients meet these requirements without a problem.

Sometimes a patient’s data falls into a gray area, and Dr. Treu can consult directly with a LASIK surgeon to decide what is best for the case and your future vision.

What kind of warranty do you have on glasses and contact lenses?
All of the frames and all coated opthalmic lenses we carry have a one year, one time replacement warranty… obviously this does not cover normal, wear-and-tear or poor care by the user… And  some of our frames even have a 2 year warranty!

Do you accept walk-in patients or do I have to make an appointment?
YES, however walk-in appointments are not guaranteed, they are made on a space-available basis. An appointment is the most efficient way for us to see you, we set aside a specific time for you.. however, if you are unable to make an appointment you can “walk-in” or phone ahead, to check on our space-available schedule status.

Do I have to make an appointment to order glasses?
If you have a current glasses prescription, you do not need an appointment to order glasses and frames.

If you do not have a current glasses prescription, then you will need to schedule an exam appointment before ordering glasses.

Our optical is open from 8:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.
